All of the best museums to visit in New York City! There are so many great museums in the city, but these are some of my favorites. 🗽
1. Ellis Island / The Statue of Liberty
Ok, every American should visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty at least once in their lifetime. It is a HUGE part of American history, and the immigration era of the early 1900’s is probably one of the most important events in American history. Over 12 million immigrants came to America through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s, so that means YOUR ancestors probably went through here. The statistic is that about 40% of the American population can trace at least one of their ancestors to Ellis Island. That’s almost half of us! It’s a great museum, and I definitely recommend checking it out. If you want to climb to the top of the Statue of Liberty, make sure you get a “Crown Reserve” ticket. All tickets include the ferry rides there and back.
2. The Museum of Natural History
The Museum of Natural History should also be a museum on the top of your list. It has exhibits on dinosaurs, animals, marine life, rocks and earth science, it really is an awesome museum.
3. The Intrepid
Another one of my favorite museums in the city is the Intrepid Museum. It’s a retired aircraft carrier that you can walk around and explore! On its flight deck there are various military aircrafts to look at, you can walk through an actual submarine, and there’s an entire space exhibit with a space shuttle! It has so many unique experiences that you don’t want to miss.
4. The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met is probably one of the best art museums in the world, so if you like art, this is the museum to visit. It has art galleries, sculptures, tapestries, and art from around the world. It even has a rooftop with incredible views of Central Park and the city.
5. The Morgan Library and Museum
If you like books, the Morgan Library and Museum should also be on your list. It is the personal library of Pierpont Morgan, and is a collection of rare books and materials.
